Ambassador of Nepal to Brazil Mr. Nirmal Raj Kafle, who is concurrently accredited to Chile, presented his Letters of Credence to His Excellency Mr. Gabriel Boric Font, the President of the Republic of Chile, on 28 March 2024. Presenting the credentials at a ceremony held in Santiago, Ambassador Kafle conveyed greetings from the Rt. Hon. President and the Rt. Hon. Prime Minister of Nepal to President Boric for his health and happiness as well as for the continued progress of the friendly Chilean people. The Ambassador conveyed Nepal’s commitment to promoting friendship and cooperation, encompassing trade, tourism and people to people contacts.
The Chilean President, while sending his good wishes to the top leadership of Nepal, commended the path Nepal has taken in institutionalising peace, progress and stability in the country. He assured the Ambassador of his Government’s full support in discharge of his duties as non-resident Ambassador. Matters relating to engagements at global platforms on common agendas such as sustainable mountain development, gender equality and social justice were also exchanged.
Prior to the ceremony, the Ambassador had a meeting with Director for Asia-Pacific Ambassador Pablo Arriaran at the Chilean Ministry of Foreign Affairs. During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on various aspects of bilateral relations and cooperation, including prospects of economic partnerships and Nepali community in Chile. Both sides underscored the need of working closely on the climate agenda, multilateral systems and collaboration among the global South for common interests. First Secretary Mr. Babu Ram Sigdyal accompanied the Ambassador on both the occasions.
While in Chile, the Embassy team met with non-resident Nepalis, and talked about opportunities and challenges for the Nepali diaspora. Passport and consular services were provided to the Nepali community during the visit. About two hundred Nepalis live in Chile pursuing various professions. A meeting was also held with the local business community to discuss ways to promote trade and tourism, including through building business linkages.
